The JCS Story

Jewish Community Services (JCS) began in 1936 under the auspices of the Flint Jewish Federation. In 1987 it was established as an independent non-profit organization. The mission of JCS is to provide social services to the Jewish and general population of Genesee County and to foster the well-being of the community through collaborative community events. Major programs of the agency are: the Senior Nutrition Program, which includes Kosher and Asian Indian Senior Congregate Meals and Home-Delivered Meals; Local Transportation Services for seniors and the disabled; the Highway to Health Program (medical transportation outside Genesee County); Information, Assessment and Referral; Casework Coordination Services; Youth Services; and Immigrant Services.

JCS works closely with other agencies and organizations, such as United Way of Genesee County, Catholic Charities of Shiawassee and Genesee Counties, Center for Gerontology, Department of Human Services, Family Service Agency, Flint Mass Transportation Authority, Genesee County Community Action Resource Department, Senior Directors' Association of Genesee County, North End Soup Kitchen, Flint Area Chamber of Commerce, Resource Center, Genesee County Commission on Aging, YWCA, and other local agencies as partners and resources for clients. The Association of Jewish Family and Children's Agencies (AJFCA) a national organization, as well as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS) are major resources. Our network also includes Jewish Family Services agencies, which are located throughout the United States. The agency is actively involved in the network of refugee resettlement agencies, including the Executive Committee of the Michigan Committee for Refugee Resettlement and the New Immigrant Services Coalition of Mid-Michigan.
